BADGES

Badge | 01 Chatterpix

I earned the Chatterpix badge. Chatterpix is an application that allows you to take a picture of yourself and then draw a line on your mouth so that you can record over the image and make it look as if the image is talking. Chatterpix is an application that will be fun to incorporate into the classroom because I can use it to engage my students in the lesson I am teaching, or students can use it to add creativity to any project that they have to create. Badge | 02 Smore

I earned the Smore Badge. Smore is a website that allows you to easily create news flyers for parents and/or students. Through this website I was able to create an introduction newsletter that I would make for my students in the classroom. Linked to it is my contact information, the class website, my picture, my email, my professional twitter, and a quote that I really like about education. Through this tool I have learned how to use a great resource for communicating with the parents of students. This will be important in my classroom because parents need to be informed about classroom events and have the necessary tools to contact me. Click on the image to the left to see my Smore page!

Badge | 03 EDpuzzle

I earned the EDpuzzle badge. EDpuzzle is a website that allows you to find a video and ask comprehension questions throughout the video where ever you find it necessary. You can ask multiple choice questions, written response questions, or just make a comment on an important part of the video. This website is very important in my future classroom because I can assign a video to students that they need to watch for homework and track their understanding of the video and make sure that they payed attention to the content through the quiz questions throughout. Badge | 04 Concept Map

I earned the concept map badge. Through the use of Popplet, I was able to create a concept map that allows students to see how different ideas and facts relate to each other. You can add media to the map, change the fonts and colors of text to emphasize different ideas or show relationships, and add titles to show parent ideas. Concept maps are important in the classroom because they can help students more easily see the relationships between different ideas or themes. Students can also build their own concept maps and practice critical thinking skills when defining the relationships on the map. Click on the image to the left to see my example of a concept map!

Badge | 05 Rubric

I earned the rubric badge. I was able to create a rubric through the use of iRubric. The rubric that I created is for a green screen presentation that I would have my students create in groups. They would be given a history topic and have a debate. The image put in the green screen would be the location in which the debate could have logically taken place. The rubric assesses the students' creativity, teamwork, accuracy of the debate topic, the organization of the debate, and the video quality on a 1-4 point scale. This rubric is an example of a rubric that I could use for a real project in a 5th grade classroom, as it aligns to one of the Indiana 5th history grade standards. Click the image to the left to see the rubric that I created.

Badge | 06 Hour of Code (Computational Thinking)

I earned the Hour of Code badge. Through this badge, I spent an hour coding  a Minecraft game and learned the different aspects of computational thinking. In my classroom, I want every student to complete the hour of code Minecraft game. Since a lot of students are already acquainted with Minecraft, it will be very beneficial for them to see the algorithms that they create and for them to see how the video game they love is really allowing them to think critically and learn problem solving skills. Badge | 07 Learning Management Systems

I earned the Learning Management Systems badge! I used ClassDojo for this badge. ClassDojo will be a useful tool in my future classroom because I will be able to post announcements about homework, links to PowerPoints that were discussed in class, and links to other websites or readings that I might find helpful. I can have both the parents of the students and the students connect to the page so that parents can keep up with classroom updates if they so desire and students can find any notes they may have missed and homework assignments that they might not remember to do.  Click the image to the left to see what I created on my ClassDojo page!

Badge | 08 Kahoot

I earned the Kahoot badge! Through the Kahoot game I made, I was able to create questions that aligned with a 3rd grade history standard. I will be using Kahoot in the classroom because it is very engaging for students, as they have a certain time limit to answer a question about what they have learned, and they get to compete against their classmates to see who can get the most points. Kahoot will allow me to assess how much knowledge the students have as a whole on a certain topic and allows the students to learn/review class material in a fun way. Badge | 09 Professional Learning Network

I earned the Professional Learning Network badge! I chose to make a professional Twitter page for myself that allowed me to follow teaching accounts that will give me handy tips for the future and ways to bring in fun learning tools to keep students engaged. I will use my Twitter in the future to Tweet out classroom updates for parents to see, Tweet out homework assignments so that students do not miss the assignment, and to participate in Twitter chats so that I can stay informed with the best ways to teach. Badge | 10

Badge | 10 Production

I earned the Production badge! I used the explain everything badge to put together a presentation that I would have my students do in the classroom in the future. In my classroom, I will have students use this application to create a presentation over a specific standard and have them record their voicing talking about the subject over it. I think this tool is easy to use and will create an engaging presentation for the whole classroom and can allow students who get anxious over presentations not get nervous as they won't present in front of anyone.
