ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Rachel Folstrom; welcome to my ePortfolio! This website will allow you to get to know me and see some of my best work. I am an elementary education major at Indiana University, pursuing a minor in history and a concentration in math. I grew up in Fishers, Indiana and have had the privilege of being inspired some of the best teachers I have come across. Ever since 3rd grade I have wanted to be a teacher and now have the ambition to teach 3rd grade students! I have nannied over the past couple of summers and had the opportunity to shadow in a 3rd grade classroom in May of 2017 and a 5th grade classroom in May 2018. I am also a substitute teacher.

I am very excited to use the tools that I have been learning throughout W-200 and integrate technology into my future classroom! Technology is important to incorporate into a classroom because technology allows students to learn using different mediums and problem solving skills. These skills, such as using algorithms and learning different ways to put presentations together, allows students to become more well-rounded in the classroom. I believe that technology is efficient, effective, engaging, and enhancing. I plan on using robots, iPads, and various applications to incorporate technology.

By looking around the pages of this site, you will be able to see the work I have done to support the Indiana teaching standards, the badges that I have created, and some examples of my best work. At the bottom of the page, you can find my contact information as well as a link to my professional Twitter page and my LinkedIn profile.

Here are the Indiana Standards for teachers. By navigating to this page, you can find examples of how I have been working on meeting these standards in class.

Here are examples of all of the various resources I have learned how to use throughout this class in order to incorporate technology into the classroom.

Here are examples of some of the best work that I have done throughout this class. From lesson plans to concept maps, you can see how I have been able to utilize technology.

My pedagogical beliefs include the emphasis on using passion to inspire my students to always complete their best work. I want to use my passion to make sure that each student is engaged in the lesson and wants to succeed. I also believe in the importance of inclusion. I will diversify my lessons and assignments to make sure that every student is learning with the help they need. Through inclusion and passion I am hoping to create a successful classroom that drives students to want to further their education and continue to grow in knowledge.
